The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has officially unveiled the results of China’s first Product Carbon Footprint Certification Pilot Program. A total of 26 institutions, including the China Electricity Council Certification Center (CEC), have been selected, signifying the formal establishment of the nation’s product carbon labeling certification framework.

The creation of a product carbon labeling certification system and the enhancement of carbon footprint management are pivotal for promoting green, low-carbon development and achieving China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. The inaugural pilot program focuses on industries with urgent market demands, significant export challenges, high emissions reduction potential, and substantial influence across supply chains. Ten key product categories—such as lithium batteries, photovoltaics, steel, electrolytic aluminum, and cement—have been selected for certification trials. Products like photovoltaic components and electronic appliances, which are vital to the development of a modern energy system, are expected to benefit significantly from carbon footprint certification. These efforts aim to establish green supply chains and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy.

In recent years, the CEC Certification Center has conducted carbon footprint certifications for over 50 companies, covering eight categories of power equipment, including transmission towers, smart meters, transformers, conductors, photovoltaic modules, and inverters. This experience has laid a solid foundation for promoting the green, low-carbon transformation of the power equipment industry.
